Valentine's Day is coming up, and if you're like us, sometimes these holidays sneak up on us.  In an ideal world, all our mornings would be slow, our coffee would be warm, and the valentines treats and crafts would be exquisite, easy, delicious, and perfectly healthy.

Well, we're in the real world. And sometimes we gotta through things together! Life is all about setting priorities and boundaries to protect what is really important to us. It's out of an abundance of love that we streamline our lives so that we can focus on what really matters to us, and likely for you, since you're here reading, at the top of that list is your kids and connecting with them in meaningful ways.

Here are some ideas for fun moments you can create with items likely in your house, easily swappable, that are easy to clean up and transition into and out of. Take the pressure off of yourself to make every moment the most mAgIcAl, because all they really want is you. Because you are the best Mom or Dad, and they love you so much 💖

Googly Eye Hearts

A perfect vehicle for maximum creativity while taking the least amount of time.

Needed:

-Paper (construction, cardstock, printer. Whatever you have will work!)
-Glue (any kind will work!)
-Scissors
-Eyes (googly, or draw on)
-Crayons/pencils/markers (whatever you have that you trust your kid with!)
-Anything else you want to add

1. Take your paper in the color you want for your heart, and fold so there is a crease. Taking your scissors, cut out a paper heart along the crease.

2. Decorate your heart! You can write a message on one side, draw designs, or create a beautiful abstract drawing.

3. Flip your heart over, and use your glue to glue on the googley eyes (go wild--use different eye sizes!), and decorate with whatever other items you'd like--pipe cleaners, pom poms, glitter, stickers, what have you.

4. Use a marker or crayon to draw on a mouth

Enjoy and share your cute little love bug valentine!

Love Note Postcards

For this craft, you won't need anything different. Just the same sweet creative juice!

1. Take two pieces of paper, one about an inch larger on each side.

2. Glue the smaller piece centered on the larger paper.
3. Once glued together, write a message, and decorate how you like!
4. Hang on the fridge, or give to a special Valentine!

Sweet Collages

Here we have our most complicated project, and by complicated, I mean takes the longest time. In terms of technique, there is none!

1. Use the same crafting items as before, and summon your last bit of artistic will. Take a piece of paper, any size that you like.

2. Take some colorful paper, construction paper is probably best here if you have it, but anything will work, and tear it into pieces. It is cathartic, you are welcome.

3. Glue pieces to first paper, in whatever pattern/design you like. We went for 'stained glass chic'.
4. If you like, you can cut strips of another piece of paper, and make a border, or a window frame. Or not :) Maybe write a message in the middle or on the back. Or not :)
Just remember, they don't need or want perfection. They just want to feel safe and loved and with you 💖
Happy Valentine's Day, Mama, you're killing it.
